Ira Harrington Smith (1915-1992) Renowned and very desirable St. Thomas, Virgin Islands artist was an American painter active in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Work by this artist is extremely desirable. Ira was a very talented painter whose prized works were extremely popular in the 50s & 60s. Originally from New Jersey, he moved to the islands and began painting colorful scenes of everyday life. His works featured on the cover of many magazines including the Virgin Islands Magazine as well as Helen Auble's 1956 publication, Welcome to the Virgin Islands. Ira resided in the territory for forty-five years sharing his artistic talents while helping others develop theirs. This is an original, one of a kind watercolor painting depicting a scene at the harbor with 2 sailboats and locals purchasing fresh produce right off the boat.
