Howard was known for his wonderful Norwegian folk art wood carvings, which have been sold both in the U.S. and abroad. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, he carried on the folk art of his ancestors and decorated his carvings using the chip carving style and incorporated Norwegian rosamale designs. He used the original, Norwegian spelling of his name, Skjerpe, when signing his work.
