Vintage Mattel Barbie Japanese Dolls of the World This is a rare item as it is it is a souvenir doll from the from the Around the World Barbie Festival of shops July 18-20, 1985. The Japanese Barbie, created by Mattel designer Janet Goldblatt, was limited to 250 dolls and wears a Convention banner. She wears a red kimono embroidered with cherry blossom branches. Her hair is styled in Taka Shimada highlighted with a red and gold hair band. The obi, around her waist, is gold and is tied in place with a black obijime. The back side of the box provides a variety of terms and explanations relating to Japanese culture, garb, ritual and traditions.
