This is an extremely rare political pamphlet concerning the Embargo Act passed in January 1809 by Congress and signed into law by President Thomas Jefferson. The full text of the act is included as the preface to the speech about the act given by William Branch Giles, a US Senator of Virginia, in support of the act. This was printed by the firm of Adams, Rhoades, & Company in Boston. The lead printer, Abijah Adams, supported Jeffersonian politics and was frequently outspoken and odds with the political authorities in Massachusetts. This pamphlet is 24 pages (including blank back sheet) in length, is evenly age-toned a mellow tan. It has its original cotton-stitched thread and no covers. Some small paper loss at corners and edges, a light damp stain on some pages, but in overall very good condition for paper ephemera of its age - 213 years old! Held by very few rare book shops and special collection repositories; those that do include the Library of Congress & Jefferson Library at Monticello.
