Gilles" on the front • Made in Origin Born in Paris in 1895, Albert Gilles was introduced to the art of repoussé (metal embossing) by his aunt. In 1926, he participated and distinguished himself in the annual salon organized by the Society of Decorative Artists in Paris. He crossed the Atlantic in 1927 and put his talent at the service of several personalities. In Detroit, he decorated the homes of the Fischer brothers of GM and Mr. Mendelson of Chrysler. He worked as a set designer for Universal Studios in California. He decorated the homes of film actors such as Mae West, Fredric March, Walt, and Roy Disney. He then emigrated to Canada where he specialized in church decoration work. Pope Pius XII commissioned him to create a gold and silver chalice that he gave to the Archdiocese of Montreal.
