This hand carved, hand built, hand painted music box was finely crafted in Seiffen Germany exclusively for the Reuge and Romance Music Box Companies in the Mid-Century period (1950-1970). It is made in the shape of a small workbench/ table on top of which sits a decorated Christmas tree and several handmade toys & tools. The music box plays the classic Holiday carol " O Tannenbaum/ Oh Christmas Tree" & measures: 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3". It is in excellent pre-owned used condition, with only minor cosmetic wear. Seiffen's located in the district of Erzgebirgskreis, in central south Saxony in Germany. The earliest record of the town dates to 1324 when it was known as Cynsifen. Seiffen nestles in the heart of the Ore Mountains, which are famous for many Christmas traditions shops. Originally, the townsfolk earned their living from rich veins of silver & tin that dotted the mountainside. As the veins dried up, these resourceful people turned to their artistic traditions to earn money.
