He won 4 consecutive AAU shot put titles, the NCAA in 1927, and the AAU indoor titles twice. He moved to LA after competing in the athletic club and became friends with Douglas Fairbanks (actor). Bruce broke his shoulder filming 1931 film touchdown. So shops, the Tarzan part was replaced by swimming champion Johhny Weissmuller.
